As creation evolved, it moved from mechanical interactions with its surroundings to sensory perception. But the sensory perception of a starfish (light or dark) is nowhere near as evolved as the eyesight of, say, a fish. Sensory experience allows us to perceive our environment in rich detail. The next layer of interaction with our surroundings can through emotions. But again, the simple fear a mouse feels is nowhere near as complex as the emotional bonds within a herd of elephants. Emotions allow us to connect to communities, which can be considered in a broad sense our environment. Where we are at now is intellect. But as before, the intellect of an ape, though profound, doesn’t really compare to that of homo sapien. This intellect allows us to manipulate our environment, though not without consequence. I wonder what is next for life…
